If graphic design is uranium, and illustration is a single free neutron, then consider me the carefully controlled vacuum that let's them smash into each other, creating spectacular atomic energy. It's science.
I live and breathe at the intersection of the creative, and the technical. I'm most at home when I'm solving creative problems, I'll scratch my brain raw in pursuit of the elegant solution that i'm convinced is hiding behind even the strictest limitations. I'm an addict chasing a high. My drug is whatever project comes through my door tomorrow that I can really sink my teeth into.
But I'm not a machine. I still find time to enjoy the finer things in life, like mall teriyaki, sci-fi novels, and mac 'n cheese from a box. I'm an avid kendama player, and I also collect yoyos and other skill toys as a hobby. I've fallen in love with the city of Columbus, where I'm finishing my undergrad at the Columbus College of Art and Design. I live there with my wife, Samantha, as well as our Nintendo Switch, and a potted Japanese peace lily.
When I'm not working, I maintain and curate BLACKBIT, an art blog of my personal art and side projects. I also do that Instagram thing, @JSQK.
"Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent."
-Calvin Coolidge
